What is a California RV or Floating Home Bond?

The California RV or Floating Home Bond is in accordance with Section 18086.5 of the California Health and Safety Code. It says that a bond may be accepted to support the issuance of a Certificate of Title when regular evidence of ownership cannot be obtained.  This bond is required by the Department of Housing and Community Development in California, specifically for those who want to purchase an recreational vehicle to make as your permanent residence or floating home. The bond amount is based on the current market value of the unit being considered. Please note that before the Department of Housing will accept the bond, you must first explain the circumstances of how you came to possess the unit and when it was acquired. It is also your responsibility to provide the current value of the unit from where the basis of the bond price may come from.
