Iowa Certificate of Title Bond

The Iowa Department of Transportation and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources/Law Enforcement Bureau, Licensing Section requires this surety bond under Code of Iowa, Chapters 321.29(9) and 42A.5A. When the title of a bond is damaged or cannot be produced, Certificate of Title bonds are usually required. The bond does not protect the bondholder—it actually protects the Department of Transportation in case someone with the vehicle’s title claims it belongs to them. The required bond amount is 1.5 times the current value of the vehicle or vessel as determined by the Department of Transportation.
