What is a Texas Sign Contractor’s Bond?

The Texas Sign Contractor’s Bond is required by the State of Texas, in particular the city of San Antonio. For those who would like to be a commercial sign operator or an off-premises sign operator. This bond states that the bondholder shall faithfully perform their duties, and comply with the laws and ordinances, including all amendments pertaining to the license or permit of Sign Contractor. The amount of the bond is $45,000.

On-Premises Sign Operator (Commercial Sign Operator)

In order to obtain a Texas Sign Contractor’s Bond in San Antonio, you will need to register your On-Premises Sign Operator License. In order to register your license you will need the following:

  • Commercial/Billboard Sign Operator License Registration
  • Proof of successful completion of approved ICC exam (initial registration only)
  • Government Issued Photo Identification
  • Annual registration fee: $100 (Registrations expire September 30th)
  • Annual $45,000 bond
  • Certificate of Liability Insurance with the City of San Antonio listed as the Certificate Holder. Workers Compensation and Employer’s Liability $500,000, Comprehensive general liability $1,000,000, and bodily injury or property damage $1,000,000.

Off -Premises (Billboard Sign Operator)

In order to obtain a Texas Sign Contractor’s Bond in San Antonio, you will need to register your Off-Premises Sign Contractor License. In order to register your license with the City of San Antonio, you will need the following:

  • Commercial/Billboard Sign Operator License Registration
  • Proof of successful completion of approved ICC exam (initial registration only)

  • Annual registration fee: $375 (Registrations expire September 30)
  • Annual $45,000 bond
  • Certificate of Liability Insurance with the City of San Antonio listed as the Certificate Holder. Workers Compensation and Employer’s Liability $500,000, Comprehensive general liability $1,000,000, and bodily injury or property damage $1,000,000.
