What is a Texas Super-heavy or Oversize Permit Bond?
The Texas Super-heavy or Oversize Permit Bond is required by the Texas Department of Transportation under Chapter 623 of the Transportation Code. This bond is a requirement if you are not required to obtain a Texas DMV Motor Carrier Registration or Unified Carrier Registration. The bond states that the bondholder shall pay to the Texas Department of Transportation any and all damages that may be sustained under the jurisdiction of the Texas Transportation Commission. This bond is necessary for those who have a vehicle that drives on Texas-maintained roads or bridges with a load beyond the legal weight, width, height or length. The required bond amount is $10,000. Generally, the premium on this bond is as little as $100. The state requires that this bond must be issued by a surety company licensed to do business in the state of Texas.
